Why in Lviv

Lviv is a unique city, in which the history, culture, mentality of two worlds – the East and the West – are tolerantly merged

Ukrainian traditional dance showcased to thousands in Chicago

The Chicago-based Ukrainian dance ensemble Hromovytsia (thunder) put on a show for the city's residents as part of events over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Ensemble is also raising money for Ukrainian military effort in east Ukraine.

Footage showed the troupe demonstrating for the crowd, and for television audiences, traditional Ukrainian dances including the Hopak. The ensemble's manager says apart from dancing, the troupe is also helping Ukrainian soldiers currently fighting a Russian-backed insurgency in Ukraine's eastern Donbas Region.

Roxana Pylypczak, Manager of Ukrainian dance ensemble Hromovytsia: "We've raised more than $16,000. We bought winter clothes for the army and also an armored vehicle. We're grateful that there are young men and women who give all they can to help Ukraine. We can help by dancing or by raising funds, that's the least we can do".

The ensemble says with its dances it hopes to represent not only Ukraine, but also Chicago.
